Not What You’d Expect the Unchurched to Prefer

I came across the article linked below through a post on “The Shepherd’s Study,” a blog by fellow WELS pastor Jeremiah Gumm.  This study confirms what I and many others have suspected for a while, namely, that quite a few unchurched people are not drawn to churches that resort to gimmicks to bring people, all the while claiming that they will give guests the gospel after the gimick (translation: bait and switch).  Maybe we should stick to the means of grace to bring ’em in after all!

For more on these thoughts, see the January post, “If Only the Church Were More Like Starbucks.”

  1. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it MIGHT not actually be a duck, but it is CERTAINLY not a freight train.
