Deutschlander on IE

theology-of-the-crossProf. Em. Daniel Deutschlander, one of the most respected teachers and theologians in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, and author of the new book, The Theology of the Cross, was interviewed on Tuesday, June 23, on Issues, Etc.  An excerpt from the interview was included among the four “soundbite of the week” candidates, and the Deutschlander excerpt won the “soundbite of the week” vote on Friday’s show.  You can listen via the links below, on the IE on demand page, or through the IE iTunes podcast link.  You can also find several other audio presentations with Prof. Deutschlander on the media page on this blog.

  1. Here is one of my favorite quotes from the interview (at 21:25):

Baptism is so simple, lowly, common. But in heaven a bell is ringing, and an angel is yelling, “Stop the presses! This is what happened today at this baptism!” We don’t see that, but that is what God’s promise is …

In this vale of tears under the veil, the greatest glories are hidden, and the most beautiful moments are intimate and unseen. That’s the theology of the cross: “We live by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7). But on the day when the Bride has her veil removed, she sees her Lord in all His glory. Come Lord Jesus.
